Why I Still Love the Hunt After 11 Years
When people ask me how long I've been selling vintage, I usually tell them eleven years.
What I don't always tell them is that after eleven years, I still get excited when I spot a great piece hanging on a rack.
You would think the thrill would wear off.
It hasn't.
There is something about the hunt that keeps pulling me back. Maybe it's the possibility of finding something unexpected. Maybe it's knowing that the next rack could hold the best piece I've seen all month. Or maybe it's because every vintage item has a story, and I get to be part of finding its next chapter.
Over the years, I've sourced everywhere from small-town thrift stores and antique malls to estate sales and flea markets. I've spent countless mornings digging through racks that turned out to be complete misses. I've driven hours for sales that produced nothing at all.
And then there are the days that make it all worth it.
The perfectly faded Levi's.
The worn-in band tee.
The western pearl snap hiding between ordinary shirts.
The unexpected find that somehow makes the entire trip worthwhile.
That's the magic of vintage.
It's recognizing quality before checking the tag. It's seeing potential where others might walk right past. And it's knowing that the best pieces aren't always the most expensive, they're the ones with character.
Every fade, repair, and worn edge tells a story. These clothes have already lived a life, and somehow they still have more to give.
People often see the finished product on a website and assume vintage selling is mostly photographing and listing inventory. In reality, the hunt is where the magic happens.
I think that's what I love most about vintage.
Eleven years later, I still feel lucky every time I find a piece worth bringing home to Elwood.
Thank you for following along, supporting this little business, and giving these pieces a second life.
Happy hunting,
Chauntel
