The Ones I Almost Left Behind

One thing I've learned after eleven years of selling vintage is that the best finds aren't always the ones that immediately catch your eye.

Sometimes they're the pieces you almost leave behind.

The faded sweatshirt buried at the end of a rack.

The worn denim jacket squeezed between newer pieces.

The band tee that doesn't look like much until you pick it up and realize it's thirty years old.

I've lost count of how many times I've walked away from something only to circle back a few minutes later because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Those are often the pieces that end up becoming favorites.

Vintage shopping teaches you patience. It teaches you to slow down and look a little closer. Great pieces aren't always perfectly displayed. Sometimes they're hidden. Sometimes they're overlooked. Sometimes they're waiting for someone to recognize what makes them special.

I think that's one reason I love vintage so much.

Not because every piece is rare or valuable, but because every piece has a chance to be appreciated again.

A small stain.

A repaired seam.

A perfectly worn collar.

The things that might make a piece imperfect are often the very things that give it character.

When I'm sourcing for Elwood, I'm not looking for perfection. I'm looking for pieces that feel authentic. Pieces that have been lived in, loved, and still have a story left to tell.

And every once in a while, I find something I almost left behind.

Those are usually the best ones.

Happy hunting,

Chauntel
