Fall style doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, some of our favorite fall outfits are the ones you barely have to think about. A vintage tee you’ve already worn a hundred times, your favorite broken-in denim, and one really good layer thrown over the top. Add boots or sneakers, grab a cup of coffee, and find somewhere to wander on a Saturday. That’s pretty much the perfect fall outfit in our book.

That’s also the kind of style we love at Elwood Vintage. We’re not interested in convincing you that you need a brand-new wardrobe every September or that everything you’re wearing has to come from another decade. Everyday Vintage is about finding really good old pieces and mixing them into the life and closet you already have. Clothes should feel comfortable, lived-in, and a little different from what everyone else is wearing.

A great vintage tee is probably the easiest place to start. We will never stop loving old Harley tees, faded band shirts, perfectly worn graphics, and those random vintage tees that you buy simply because something about them is cool. The best part is that the tee you lived in all summer doesn’t have to disappear when the temperature drops. Fall just gives you more ways to wear it. Tuck it into your favorite jeans, leave it oversized, throw an old button-down over it, or let the graphic peek out from underneath a cardigan or jacket.

Then there’s the denim. Everyone has that pair of jeans they automatically reach for because they fit exactly how they want them to. Maybe they’re vintage Levi’s. Maybe they’re something you bought five years ago and have finally broken in perfectly. Either way, wear them. One of our favorite things about vintage style is that everything doesn’t need to be vintage. An old tee with the jeans already hanging in your closet can be just as good as a head-to-toe vintage outfit. Actually, sometimes we think it’s better.

Then Comes the Layer

This is where fall really starts to feel like fall. An oversized Ralph Lauren button-down, a chunky cardigan, an old crewneck sweatshirt, a faded denim jacket, a worn flannel, or a heavy knit that looks like it belongs somewhere in a cabin in Montana. You don’t need all of them. You just need that one really good layer you find yourself reaching for over and over again.

We love pieces with personality, especially the ones that don’t feel too perfect. Push up the sleeves. Leave the button-down open. Buy the sweater a little oversized. Let the denim fade, and the sweatshirt soften. The best vintage outfits rarely look like you spent an hour putting them together. They look like you grabbed a few of your favorite things, threw them on, and headed out the door.

And please, actually wear the good stuff. Wear the chunky sweater to get coffee. Wear the vintage Harley tee on a road trip. Throw on the old Ralph Lauren button-down when you’re wandering an antique store. Keep the favorite crewneck in the back of the car for chilly nights. Vintage clothes already had a life before they found you. They don’t need to spend their next one sitting untouched in a closet waiting for the perfect occasion.

That’s really what Everyday Vintage means to us. It’s not about dressing as if you stepped out of another decade or constantly chasing the next trend. It’s about finding pieces from another time that somehow feel completely at home in your life today. They become the sweater you always grab, the tee you’ve worn so many times you’ve stopped counting, or the jacket that somehow ends up coming along on every fall weekend.

Every September, we’re told we need something new for the new season. We think there’s a better way to do fall. Pull out the denim you already love. Keep wearing the tee you lived in all summer. Then go hunt for one really good vintage layer that makes the whole thing feel like fall. Maybe it’s a chunky knit buried on a thrift store rack. Maybe it’s an old sweatshirt with the perfect fade. Maybe it’s a Ralph Lauren button-down that’s two sizes bigger than you normally wear but somehow looks exactly right.Fall doesn’t need a whole new wardrobe. Sometimes it just needs one really good layer.
